Is it wise (or not) to upgrade to Windows 11

One of my most satisfying Q&A with a client:

Client : Is it wise or not to upgrade to Windows 11?

Me : It's more of, if user can get used or not...

The learning curve is not very steep...

but steep or not depends on user...

Can't teach old dog new tricks...

If can learn, upgrade...

Otherwise, it's wise to stick to Win10...

Client : "Hahaha. 高招 (Good tactic)。

Now I’m challenged in order not be an old dog."

Me : Before upgrade, make sure u got many many hrs to spare...

After the initial upgrade, still got about 2 phases of updates to stabilize...

Resolution 2015: IT Fatcat

2015 is here and suddenly comes a feeling to write a resolution...

Started in IT since 2003 and fortunately (or unfortunately) still surviving in this industry...I don't know to be happy or sad. Passion, I have IT, but unlike others in IT with M$ Apple riches beyond that bursting bubble...the small fry IT guy just fly along, thankful to make enough for a living.

My ill fated ten year cycle brings about 一年不如一年 since 2008. (Always easy to blame IT on My Destiny...U r my Destiny...damnIT...:)
I have customers that see me as savior and customers that see me as useless...
Companies that started as ikan billis and evolved to big ikans that pay my bills...
Companies that started as sharks and ended up with the loansharks...
The same customer that commented I was young, fast and honest, eventually 嫌弃我 老,小,慢,偷。

早期自称电脑华佗,今日改称电脑肥猫。。。IT Fatcat...in hope of IT facai...
华佗太狂了。。。考虑过,电脑东邪,电脑西毒,电脑新顽童, 还是低调好。。。
I practice Computer TCM, as 医电脑,可以参考传统中医。。。
望闻问切。(WLSQF - Watch, Listen, Smell, Query, Feel)
GOOGLE is 我最好的老师。。。但害教师的老师苦了wor...
PLUS 我有天份又后天努力,学东西快,现学现卖。。。

It's late..and I lack sleep as past 2 days on call 24...so I conclude my resolution:

Aspiring to be the trusted IT guy...
with heartware instead of hardware...
though I'm punctured in punctuality...

Kar Kia

An angmo customer recently asked me what's the Singlish term for female subordinate, which I told him it should be "Kar Kia / Kha Kia". I think it literally means the son of the leg?? He asked me for the spelling which I have no idea, as I've never seen the term in writing. Singlish is still a very young language so there's no standardized spelling. Then his female colleague started to complain that she's not a Kar Kia, it's a guy term...probably need to add a "Siu" infront for Siu Ze (cantonese for lady). Haha, which I don't think cantonese will mix with hokkien, but well singlish is a very versatile language...she could had said swee kar kia (beautiful sidekick)...

Anyway we tried to google for the word which I then realised there's no entry for Kar Kia in the Coxford Singlish dictionary...there's pai kia for bad boy, so I guess the hokkien spelling for boy is kia...

Let me try to explain
Kar Kia
(Car kee-ah)
Hokkien phrase for subordinate staff, underling or sidekick.
"Why you do this yourself? Get your kar kia to do lar."

Am I right, my kar kia??

What does it means to be Normal...

Get a name called Norman, move to Normandy, then get everyone else to be called Norman. Yeah, that's Normal..

Normal means to be ordinary. To be extraordinary, means to be abnormal...

I don't believe in God...not that I don't believe that there's a super root user up in the Heavens... but the term God that Christians claim to belong solely to them...
Any person or religion that believe only their belief is supreme, is normal, so they will normally try to convince others to their norm.

Not everyone are made the same.
Whatever made man, made man similarly,  yet differently...
Any animal of the same spieces will have a normal look, that's why they are normally categorized into the same spieces.

Who are we to judge what is Normal? Even if we can judge what is normal, why should we judge what is Normal? Is it right to stop someone from deviating from a normal path? Many many important discoveries, inventions, artworks happened due to a deviation from the Normal folks and paths!

Post note:
I wrote this sometime back, hidden in my Evernote note...I can barely remember I wrote it, or perhaps I copied it from somewhere that I can't recall...getting senile...anyway I found a blogger app from playstore that makes blogging easier than before haha, so only uploading now.

New view (my view changes from time to time...): Normal is good. It takes extra to be extraordinary...just be yourself, if you know yourself.

Samsung S3 Copy Paste problem - Visit to Samsung Care Singapore

I was near Plaza Singapura today and managed to squeeze time to visit Samsung Care. Only to realise it is still at Orchard Central. They don't care to update their Service Centre location on their website. Last week they say this week will move back to PS, like they say this month will roll out Jelly Beans de, till now no sign of it in SG...just reach USA Sprint nia, so I think they sprinting here. Anyway made my way to to Samsung Care Singapore at Orchard Central today to show them the problem...refer me from basic support to product support. They have no idea of this problem at all, or perhaps acting blur about it!...

As I would expect, I was advised to Factory Reset (FR) more than once. I flatly refused and reasoned that this is a flaw. They next try to shift the blame to the apps I installed...blaming that android is an open system...ya, obviously...it is a free and open ecosystem, that's the beauty about it! If Samsung can't handle it being open then please exit the Android arena!

Come to think about it, I only like Samsung S3 as a hardware. All the soft side that I like about S3, are the Android apps on Google Play. I don't like Samsung Touchwiz launcher and most Samsung Apps, ie the Messaging, S Voice, ChatON, Kies, Allshare etc...The really good stuffs from Samsung S3 is the screenshot gesture and camera...most other good stuffs is not unique to Samsung.

Anyway, I demand that Samsung fix this, as it's within Samsung core. Eventually they promise to escalate the issue to their HQ. Understand that now even Jelly Bean have this bug and this problem may come back after factory reset! I hope it's not wayang only and Samsung will roll out a fix for S3 soon!

Coincidently, met someone today who have this copy paste issue on his S3 too and he Factory Reset (FR) 3 times for this issue already! I told him to please complain to Samsung! Samsung don't care, because S3 users don't care to complain! I hope I find more comrades along the way to this injustice...Why burden ourselves with their flaw! COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN to SAMSUNG...

Until they fix this issue without FR, I'll curse Samsung everyday!

PS: Today in this article means yesterday from post date...not that I write slow, too much disturbances while writing this blog on my laptop...would have been easier if I can write this in the toilet on a S3 that can copy and paste!

Samsung galaxy S3 cannot copy and paste!

I've not felt driven to write my blog for a while and I've never felt so driven to write!
How true is the saying "The opposite of Love is Hate"...Hatred drives! And is driving me Nuts...

I don't blog when I'm so happy to get my new Samsung Galaxy S3 on the 1st day of launch in SG, on 30 May 2012 . It's the most expensive Android phone I've paid for, ($348 + $20+ micro sim activation) and I was afraid I would regret my decision. See I'm on Starhub Hub Club plan, so I'm entitled to renew my existing mobile contract every year, which means I could buy about 2 outdated, solid tested, cheaper phones for the price of one S3. Buying a new phone on launch date, is definitely with a premium price and is a complete luxury for me...Samsung S3 LTE with Jelly Bean OS is now $268! Now almost end of October no smell of Jelly Bean!

I've yet to regret my decision for getting the S3 for 4 months plus, as it's a great phone and I love it! Until just 12 days ago, my S3 cannot copy and paste! BIG REGRET! Everytime that I try to copy anything on an app , that app will crash...or otherwise there's no paste option...Happens in gmail, sms, browsers...whatsapp lagi good show "This functionality is not supported on your device" error, when I have copy functionality with no problem for 4 mths.

What is worse than software issue is poor customer service! Samsung has no clue about this matter, or perhaps intentionally keeping this hush hush the Singaporean Style! I complain to Samsung Care via email can only advise to Factory reset or bring it to service centre. Via phone can't talk to human being, the recording will go on and on and on...Via FB
Samsung Singapore wrote: "@Felix: Do press and hold the text you would like to copy, tap on the Scissor icon and the text will be copied to clipboard. When you would like to paste, do press and hold to paste."
Ya, report issue to idiot will get idiotic reply...
I at least expect them to acknowledge my problem and apologise...google this problem, I'm not the only one lor...

Just some of links:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/565061-galaxy-s3-crashing-when-copying-text-clipboard-2.html

I've not been able to google for a possible cause and I wouldn't believe this is happening, if it didn't happen to me. I didn't update firmware or install any apps that would seem to cause this problem, it's totally random.

Anyway "Copy and Paste" is something so basic, that I've taken it for granted...As no product that I've used had screwed something so basic! Even M$ didn't commit such a crime! I'm in computer line and I've not been pissed by the gazillion Micro$oft problems, as much as this Samsung S3 copy paste issue!

A factory reset for such an issue is unacceptable! What more I read the problem will occur again. Rooting will solve my problem, but I prefer not to root and let Samsung roll out an update to fix the root of this problem!

I feel like I'm the only person in Singapore complaining about this matter...Can affected users please escalate it on Samsung Facebook wall to make Samsung Mobile wake up their bloody idea.
Samsung can copy all that they want from Apple, but if they copy the way Steve Jobs answer problems, we should not accept it! We Android users are a totally different breed from Apple users!

Perhaps that's the problem, Android users are too tech savvy to escalate it back to the manufacturer and prefer to root away the problem...But this problem may mean more small small problems in subsequent Samsung products, which can lump up to a big problem!

I hope Samsung will resolve my problem or my next phone will be Sony, HTC etc...

Very disappointed in Samsung...

My blog rises

A friend recently told me that he's a blogger, who is still blogging. Mind blogging to me, as most friends I know stopped blogging. I too had stopped. He encouraged me to start blogging again, so I shall reignite my 3mins warm blogging skill again.
Haiz...what to say...suddenly hit upon an idea while showering earlier (my bathroom is my inspiration sanctuary...)
Recently, saw The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR) which is yet another masterpiece of Christopher Nolan, so I'll share a part of this movie with my perspective...

Beware of some spoilers ahead...

When Batman was imprisoned in the desert prison, there was a well like opening (meaning look like a well, not that they like it), high up the prison ceiling; which prisoners can choose to challenge climbing out of of the prison, like some ninja warrior reality show, complete with a safety officer on 24/7 standby to secure a safety rope to the challenging contestant. No one succeed to climb out of the well hole because of a broken linkway, that the best SAF IPPT Standing Broad Jump (SBJ) jumper will fail at, and crash painfully against the sides of the wall a few times, before hanging on the safety rope in despair. It was mentally painful, as that was Despair at its best.

The opening was there, with customer service to string the safety rope was, to provide Hope. In Greek mythology, Hope was the most positive evil out of Pandora's box, but was still considered evil. Hope helps one to go on with life, but over dependency on hope may lead one's life in vain. In TDKR, one of the lau jiao prisioner mentioned, that there cannot be true despair without hope. Batman attempted to jump out of prision a few times, but failed. Then the lau jiao told Batman that the reason why he couldn't pass the SBJ, was because he's afraid of death and advised him not to be Kiasi and climb without the safety rope, so he'll really need to jump like there's no 2mr!
It worked and he passed his SBJ, climbed out of the prison well and went on to save the city.

This story line goes well for Batman, as he's the only superhero in Justice League (DC comics version of Avengers) without super powers. Only super human kungfu, sadness and wealth. If it's Superman, I'll go "he's lousy, cannot fly meh?".

The hope and despair part reminds me of the Yin Yang School of Thoughts. There's no good without bad and vice vs. If one uses "watch plum quench thirst" (望梅止渴) strategy to try walk out of a rough patch, without managing to walk out of it, the thirst would be unquenchable. The higher the hope, the bigger the disappointment (希望越高失望越大).

Confucius recommends the middle way (中庸之道). Buddha was enlightened by the veena strings that shouldn't be too taut or too loose.
Lead life with a normal heart (平常心)...
Which is easier said than done...
Practice makes perfect.
