Life is a library...
We are all humans...starting out as blank pieces of paper, before accumulating knowledge and experience to become a book.
As time goes by, some remain open books, with simple characters; while others form complicated books, with complex characters...
There's nothing wrong with judging a book by it's cover.
But it's not right to make the judgement of the book without reading it, "lock" the judgement as true and then pass the judgement to others...
The judgement is a personal hypothesis, which is ok for personal reference. Passing on the judgement may make the hypothesis spread to become true...that's how rumours are made...

As we get older, we have no time to read so many books in detail, so we normally judge by it's cover...
And while volunteering with the Intellectually Disabled, I enjoy reading simple books, while complicated books seems to get simpler...

Do share the spirit of volunteerism! It's great to receive and even better when giving!

Wedding Talk

As an experienced guest for wedding luncheons/dinners in Singapore, let me share my 2 cents about being a wedding guest, as a non-driving bachelor.

1st thing on the list is, how much to pack for the angbao?
Anything related to money is a sensitive issue...the following are some of my suggestions.

Method 1
Honesty is the best policy...just blatantly check with the wedding host "How much do u think I should I give?"...

Method 2
A taxi driver suggested giving a real blank cheque.
Is that feasible?? Wouldn't that put both the wedding host and yourself in the spot??
Pros
If he/she is a worthy friend and u r in a dilemma of how much to give, this method will throw the question back to the wedding host. Ideally, he/she would fill in the appropriate amt for u...rather than u, asking the awkward question of "How much should I give har?".
Cons
The rule of thumb is: A = B + S
(where A is Angbao value, B is Break-even amt, S is Special feeeeling)
In doing this, u expect the wedding host to fill in the "S" value for u meh? Depending on individual, some would be so paiseh to fill in the S amt and some might fill in an amt too much for u to bear.
Bounced chq - u'll need to pay the bounced chq bank fees and "refund" to the wedding host, or kiss your relationship with that fren goodbye...

I havn't try this yet, but would advise against it, unless u have sufficient funds in your bank account and confident of the relationship with that friend/associate. Any 3 long and 2 short, would cost u a friendship.

Method 3
Check with other wedding guests going to the same wedding on the amt they are giving. An average or matching the highest value would be a safe bet.
Cons: Ensure that u check with the right ppl. It would be paiseh to check with an uninvited someone and let that someone wonder why he/she is not invited...

Method 4
Chk out the following Angbao guide, that I just found...However, dun't take it for granted, prices may fluctuate and there are expenses such as beverages to cover...

When to blog...

So this is my third post, 3 days in a row.... Unbelievable...
Am I so bored that I blog or am I addicted to blogging already...

Hope not. I have plenty of things on my plate already, yet I can still find time to blog...I must be in the "3mins warm" stage. After a long day, slogging at work, perhaps blogging is a 解脱...where I can mentally flog any "small people" to death with my words! And grouse about any grievances in my way...

But then leh, since I'm using my name to blog and being the "fake gentleman" that I am, I had better not "unblock my mouth with the basket". Had wanted to keep an anonymous blog instead, but Karma works in mysterious ways, it's always good to 修口德. Of coz, it's easier to preach than to practice.

Ok, back to my blog subject...I'm a newbie to blogging, so I'm still figuring out when to blog....this is important rite?...not expecting my blog to be a success but dunt want it to be a flop either. With so many social networking medias avail, why would I blog, instead of facebooking? Even if I'm feeling a little "lor sor" that my comments cannot fit, I can leave a FB note, rite...Well, dunno the answer...but I'm enjoying writing in my own flair that would definitely fail as an essay, irregardless if it is a blog or FB notes. Wonder if my english teachers, Mrs Chang; Mrs Tan; Miss Nah etc, would shake heads if they saw this hahaha...

Ok gng to sleep, so I will end by sharing something funny, that I read today:

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here’s what she said to me.
Que Pei Ling, Pei Ling,
Get a rich husband, forget how old is he,
The future is as bright as can be,
Que Pei Ling, Pei Ling
Ferrari, LV….
When I was 25, I got married,
I asked my husband what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows, day after day
Here’s what my hubby said.
Que Pei Ling, Pei Ling,
I work in Pee A Pee,
the money keeps pouring in,
Que Pei Ling, Pei Ling
Lambogini, Gucci…
Now I am in Pee A Pee
I ask Matthias, where will I stand,
Will it be SMC or will it be GRC,
This is what he says to me.
Que Pei Ling, Pei Ling,
Just act cute and smile,
Marine Parade is it,
when you see uncle Goh
Easy… Peesy…

Why Blog here???

Partly, I'm exploring which is the better platform to blog with...Blogger or Wordpress.

Many ppl tell me wordpress is better than blogger and vice versa...
I dunt think I'll know, until I try it for myself. So far prefer blogger to wordpress.
I like that Blogger is very well integrated with google and picasa, while a Wordpress blog defined my comments as spam, so it was easy to choose Blogger as my personal choice...

Many months back, I was tasked to setup the blog site of the volunteer group, that I volunteer for. Simple rite?? Just weigh out the pros and cons of each blog site objectively and make a decision...Well, it isn't so simple and I'm not the only one stuck at the decision. The blog war between Blogger & Wordpress keeps both platforms up to date, hence there are comparison charts such as the link below:
http://pulsed.blogspot.com/2007/07/blogger-wordpress-chart.html

It's a long list to read and justify....my personal conclusion is to start with Blogger.
Both are excellent free to use blog sites. Choosing one over the other will not be a bad choice.
If later find Blogger no good, importing to Wordpress is a snap! Just dunt regret that decision, as Wordpress to Blogger is not really possible.
Lastly, it's the contents that matters most.

Felix's 1st post!

Finally, I've decided to blog!

Though I consider myself IT savvy, I'm "sua ku" to blogging and may not have the diligence to keep a blog...
Hope this will not be my first & last blog.

So what will I be blogging about??
I don't really know....random rantings perhaps...

Why I call my blog "Kwang say Yean talk"?
My chinese name is Kwang Yean (光演)...this will be a blog to keep my crazy rantings (疯言疯语)...
